coleman furnace open limit

QUESTION:

I am an hvac contractor in nj . last night I went on a call where the customer had a coleman gas furnace in which the gas valve kept shutting off .the draft inducer comes on then the ignitor the furnace fires for 60 seconds then shuts off , the fan will run for about a minute or two then it will repeat the whole sequence again. the light on the board was blinking 4 times which according to the schematic meant that there was an open limit . I used my meter to check all the limits they checked out ok . has anyone ever ran into this problem with coleman could it be a bad ground or a bad board ?

ANSWER:

I've never seen a Coleman furnace and haven't done residential work for a number of years.
That sequence sounds like failure to prove the flame.
If flame rectification through a little stainless rod, remove it, clean it with Scotch Brite or whatever you have at hand, clean the pilot hood, then go again.
