QUESTION:First and foremost lose the repair man then call a reputable service company out
for the diagnosis and estimate... And expect to pay a reputable company for a
diagnosis.
It would be a waste to 2nd guess some of the possibilities here. Hope this gets
you going in the right direction. If you disagree with my prognosis of losing
the guy then you deserve him!
ANSWER: I have a gas Coleman D.E.S. 80 Model 2860C866. My guess is its 11 years old.
I'm not a tech so here goes my best to describe the problem: The temp in
house goes lower than thermostat, the furnace makes a noise like its
starting but no hot air ever comes out of the heat registers in house, the
furnace continues to make the noise for hours but no air\heat never comes
through the registers in floor. I can set the temp for thermostat to be
*lower* than house temp then wait about a minute, then set the thermostat to
be *higher* than the house temp. and the furnace will start blowing hot air
to heat the house. Its intermittant, sometimes the furnace works ok
sometimes it doesn't.
I had a repair person look at it that said he's never seen this model and he
has seen alot of furnaces. He said he needs to order parts and it could
take up to10 days to get a new module, and he is not sure this will even fix
it. He says just switch the power off on the breaker panel to reset the
furnace when it doesn't work for now.
I have searched the web for answers but it seems all I can find is Coleman's
for trailer\mobile homes. My house is just a regular house and this looks
like a regular size furnace.
