QUESTION:Which do the pros prefer? I'm having a new forced air
system installed in my 1300 sq ft home (mediocre insulation,
single-paned windows). The Lennox installer suggests a 75K BTU unit.
The Ducane installer suggests a 55K BTU unit, and claims
they are very quiet. Any suggestions to help me decide? Also, the Lennox dealer offers an electronic air cleaner option.
Any pros/cons? and how much power to they consume?
ANSWER: Where do you live? Florida or upstate Maine?
Will remove more small stuff in the air than any other residential offering and
does it with minimal restriction to air flow. Some of the big pleated filter units like the SpaceGuard can introduce a lot of
restriction to air flow that the existing duct system/furnace blower can't
accomodate. Reduces the air flow too much and can cause A/Cs to freeze up and
furnace heat exchanger to run hotter than wanted. To compensate, you would
have to jack the blower speed which costs more to run. The power consumption
of an electronic air cleaner is minimal.
