York Furnace Filter (High velocity)?
QUESTION:I have a York Diamond 80: http://www.yorkupg.com/ProDetails.asp?id=29 The book that came with my York Diamond 80 says to use a "High Velocity"
filter. It says "Warning, when replacing the filter DO NOT use a type with
excessively high pressure drop. Some high efficiency filters available will
cause the furnace to operate improperly and could result in a safety hazard" The filter that came out of the unit looks like a scotch-brite pad that you
would use to do the dishes. I cannot find a filter like this at Home Depot
and I cannot find any filter rated as "High Velocity". Can I use a 3M
Filtrete filter like this: http://www.3m.com/us/home_leisure/filtrete/413_dust.jhtml This filter is not labeled as high velocity.
ANSWER: Thanks for the offer, but I had to get a filter ASAP. The filter in the unit
was super dirty and we are in the middle of an extreme cold spell here in NY.
Outside temp is abut 10 degrees right now and the unit is running pretty much
full time. I checked two Home Depot stores and a Lowes near me and they did
not have the "Hog Hair" filter. I did not want to clean the original fiter
because it was disgusting and I have nowhere to clean it right now. It is
just way too cold out right now and I cannot hose it outside and it will never
dry in time. My filter size is 16x25x1 and the model number of the furnace is
P3HUB16N08001C. Are the NaturalAire (Flanders) pleated filters any better
than the 3M units for a unit that requires a high velocity filter? They claim
to have "Low airflow resistance for better equipment operation and to help
save energy". You spoke about ductwork sized to handle the 3M. My Diamond 80 gets the input
from the side of the unit and outputs on the top of the unit. How can I tell
if the ductwork would support a NaturalAire?
