QUESTION:I just purchased & installed a Sears Kenmore Model 3000 furnace
humidifier with integral blower. My home is over 3000 sq ft, therefore it
seemed to be my only choice (from Sears). Two questions: What % of
humidity should I anticipate from a humidifier? Right now, I have to turn
the humidistat control well past "high" to get it to come on, indicating
that it senses enough humidity in the house to begin with. My "cheap"
hygrometer reads 50%. I feel dry already! The unit's blower motor gets
really hot...can't touch it! I'm afraid to leave the humidifier
constant-on (with the furnace blower on), fearing that it will burn out.
Anybody with knowledge or experience with motors...should I be worried?
ANSWER: Where is the humidistat for the humidifier mounted? If its like the Sears model I had with an integral blower, the unit
was mounted on the warm-air plenum, but the motor was isolated from
the warm air and had its own cooling fan. Are you sure the blower fan is turning? That there's nothing binding
the shaft? That the correct voltage is being applied to the motor? Where did the
switched voltage come from to run the humidifier?
