QUESTION:I was just given a Beckett AF2 150 oil burner to replace my old clunker. It
is in brand new shape. Was wondering if anyone could help me with the wiring
where it enters oil burner.the burner has 3 black wires 2 yellow and one
white wire.Furnace has 1 white and one red wire. Also the old burner had a 10
" blast tube new one is about 6"
ANSWER: I hate to be blunt, but if you can't figure out this on your own, you
shouldn't even be attempted such an oil burner conversion.
Several connections have to go to the new burner including connections
for the primary burner control, thermostat, stack safety switch or
equivalent, etc. Also with the shorter burner tube, the flame may not be properly
positioned in your firebox. My final worry is that a modern flame retention burner such as a
Becket AF series, burns hotter than older non-flame retention burners.
I've seen them burn right through the firebox material in older
furnaces or boilers. Did your furnace have a flame retention burner to
begin with?
