QUESTION:On the very coldest mornings of winter my furnace runs less than 1/3 of each
hour. The a/c people said a smaller furnace would be quieter and give more even
heat. They are proposing installing a new furnace about 1/2 the size of the
current furnace's output. Would this be big enough? Current furnace is
100,000 btu Input / 67,500 output. A _lot_ of insulation, caulking and new
windows have been added since the old furnace was installed. I offered to have a manual-J (?) done, but nobody here will do that.
ANSWER: That doesnt sound like too long of a run time actually. A new more
efficient unit might save you money but why would you just let someone
guess as to what size your house needs?
Tell the bums to get the hell out of your house if they are too lazy
to do a proper Right J load calculation on your home.
A competent company will be happy to do it for you
