QUESTION:My Oil Furnace (FP Industries) is about 15 years old, and it just stopped
working this morning.
It is leaking water around the seams, and when I hit the reset button, puffs
of smoke emit from where
the burner head attaches to the furnace. I looked up the brand on google,
but get no returns.
I guess the company is out of business.
Can somebody list the best quality furnaces for replacement? Approx cost?
I have read that cast iron heat exchangers are better due to longer heat
retention.
I currently have a FPO 155, 154,000 btu hot water baseboard system, which
is
2 zones.
I am in the Long Island, NY area.
ANSWER: I'm by no means an expert, but I have an HB Smith boiler and have been told
by more than one HVAC guy that HB's are the Cadillac of boilers.... this one
was installed in 1982 and still runs like it's brand new (according to the
service guy), I asked him about it cause I thought that after 20 years it
might be nearing the end of its life, but supposedly, it's got plenty of
juice left in it. Of course, you'll be paying a hefty premium for an HB Smith boiler... they
aren't cheaper, but like most things in life, you get what you pay for.
