QUESTION:I have a Lux programmable Thermostat and a Heil (sp?) AC unit. A few intro questions: When one adjusts the tstat to a lower temp, does the AC accomplish this
by running longer or is the air coming from the AC actually cooler? How sensitive is such a thermostat? ie the AC will be set for 24 degrees
C but often the tstat will read 25. How far apart can they read and
still be considered normal? Is there a certain temp above the set temp
that the room temp must reach before the AC kicks in? Our upstairs is noticeably warmer than the main floor. My wife wants to
open upstairs windows even with the AC on. This doesnt seem quite right
Do people have windows open for a breeze but still have the AC on?
ANSWER: Almost all residential units operate at one level. The thermostat acts
just like a light switch on or off and it just runs longer to get
things cooler. Some thermostats have a programmable temperature differential. Mine is
set at one degree which means that when set at 78 degrees the air
turns on at 79 and turns off at 77. You can close the dampers slightly in lever floors to push more
cooling in the upper floor. It is typical to have upper rooms warmer
in the summer than the lower floors just because heat rises nad heat
comes in from the attic. People with money often have unit for each
floor with thermostats for each floor. Keep the windows closed.
