Residential Gas Furnace

QUESTION:

I have an intermittent problem with this older model furnace. It will occasionally fire up "with a bang". this explosion being enough to sometimes blow out the pilot light. This usually happens first thing in the morning or on return from a vacation. It has been checked by two different contractors but naturally won't do it when they are here. Does anyone have any suggestions other than replacing the complete unit?

ANSWER:

I would think this is being caused by a leaking gas valve. This will allow a gradual buildup over a longer period of time. My experience however is not with residential, but industrial burners. I doubt that you could get any one to repair or rebuild the gas valve. I hope you get someone to fix this.
