Used Furnace advice needed
QUESTION:I want to buy a used natural gas furnace and
convert it to propane. For the application I find that going this way will
be better suited to my needs. What I would like to know is: What is involved
with this kind of switch? Can ALL natural gas furnaces be converted?
I can buy a used natural gas furnace for around three hundred
bucks.....what would be the additional costs to remodel it for propane?
This is for a hobby shop I have.
ANSWER: While it's easy to change for Propane use. (provided you can acquire the
kit). Why would you spend three hundred bucks for a used furnace. A new 80%
Janitrol is only $350 or so. Then again, why would anyone get rid of a
perfectly good furnace? Sometimes they do, but not often. Just make sure
it's in good working order before you throw money at it. If you are heating a garage or shop, there are radiant units that will serve
this purpose nicely and aren't too expensive. You can get gas/propane models
or electric radiant units that will also work nicely. Otherwise, you can get
a forced air unit heater to hang from the ceiling. They range in price from $300 to $1200 depending on size and model.
